For Hugo, On His Birthday

Twinkle twinkle little star,

Why did you have to go?

It breaks our hearts to lose you,

To never see you grow.

All the games we would have played

And the things we would have done,

Dreams we had for your future,

Of days spent in the sun.

Twinkle twinkle little star,

We sang, you danced along.

You boogied very time we sang

Your favourite little song.

Twinkle twinkle little star,

We know you couldn’t stay.

We couldn’t bear to see your pain,

So we let you slip away.

We held you safely in our arms,

So carefully and tight.

Our love we wrapped around you

As we said our last goodnight.

Twinkle twinkle little star,

We shed so may tears.

The day the doctors spoke to us,

We realised our worst fears.

We think about you every day,

Your memory lives one.

We keep you safe inside our hearts,

Never truly gone.

Twinkle twinkle little star,

Way up in the sky.

Having wonderful adventures

In the galaxies up high.

We see the stars and think of you,

We try to carry on.

But there’s grief every single day,

Knowing that you’re gone.

Twinkle twinkle little star,

Our precious little boy.

You couldn’t stay for very long

But you bought us so much joy.

Lovely poem but so heartwrenching. Wish Hugo could still be here but better that he is not in pain anymore. Wonderful he has so many to remember him, and thankful for the joy he brought though he didn’t stay around. I pray the grief gets easier and that all who grieve for him continue to be comforted in dealing with his loss. #MaternityMondays

Such a tiny boy to have such a huge legacy and so many people thinking of him and remembering him. I think about him every time I see the stars and imagine the adventures he’s having in the galaxies.
